SPCA Selangor: Help Change the Lives of Animals

SPCA Selangor is an animal welfare organisation based in Ampang Jaya, Selangor. The registered charity under the Registrar of Societies was founded in 1958 and is a well-respected and trusted Non-Profit Organisation. Over the years, the organisation has gained tremendous goodwill, recognition and support from animal lovers across Malaysia. The charity operates an ADOPTION CENTRE AND TEMPORARY SHELTER for abandoned and abused animals. Over 7,000 animals are accepted each year, with some 1,400 spayed/neutered dogs and cats rehomed. The society also operates an ambulance pick-up service for injured or distressed animals. KLINIK KEMBIRI is a highly successful, high-volume, low-cost spay/neuter clinic the SPCA set up in collaboration with Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur. As a result, over 12,000 canines and felines have been neutered, preventing the unwanted birth of more than 20 million animals since 2003. SPCA Selangor’s ANIMAL INSPECTORATE inspects and monitors public complaints of animal cruelty, receiving and acting on approximately 70 cases each month. In addition, the NGO works closely with enforcement officers from the Department Veterinary Services (DVS) to counsel pet owners and prosecute cases. The society’s GOVERNMENT LOBBYING arm meets regularly with the DVS to lobby for effective legislation, building more Klinik Kembiri and ensuring the humane management of municipal pounds. Meanwhile, the SPCA’s HUMANE EDUCATION PROGRAMME aims to create awareness among children to improve animal welfare in their communities. They also can help to clean cages and feed, walk, bathe and socialise with the animals. In addition, SPCA staff actively conduct outreach work at schools, pet events and shopping centres. With MISSIONHELP: HELPING PEOPLE HELP ANIMALS, the organisation works to improve the lives of animals beyond its reach.
